What We Are Currently Reading

These are all the books we are currently working through either in our homeschool or to influence our homeschool life! We are having a wonderful time with homeschool even though we are still very new to it. It has only been about 6 months since starting to homeschool my four kids aged 4, 5, 6, and 8. We have a very busy house indeed!!

I personally love studying nature and getting out in nature many times a week, so that is a high focus in our schedule. Nature study is incorporated into our morning time and I am always planning the next family trip. Let’s dive in!

National Geographic Bucket List Family Travel

This book is such an inspiration to me personally! The kids like to look at the pictures of the author’s kids adventuring in places around the globe…but this book is truly for me :) It gives reviews and suggestions about where to travel in the world with kids. Word of caution though: if you are a budget traveler, I would take this book with a grain of salt. The author and her family are very well-off and frequently travel without a budget. I, on the other hand, have a pretty small budget for travel! So, I love reading about her travels and getting ideas and then researching budget options for myself.

The Lost Art of Reading Nature Signs + A Year of Forest School

We are slowly working our way through these books to inspire the nature part of our homeschool. The book “A Year of Forest School” gives outdoor activities for each season, which is especially inspiring in the cold months. It’s very easy to integrate these seasonal activities into a homeschool!

Nature Anatomy + Farm Anatomy by Julia Rothman

I purchased these books when I saw them all over Instagram and fell in love with Julia’s illustrations! Now they are used as a reference material while I’m going through the Treehouse Schoolhouse nature studies. I have fallen in love with them all over again because they include so many subjects with beautiful illustrations and important information. You could honestly just purchase these books for a homeschool nature study curriculum and turn each subject into a couple weeks of study by borrowing additional library books on the subject and finding free printables online.

Sticky Situations: 365 Devotionals for Kids and Families

I am going through this book with the kids during morning time. We don’t get to it each day, but keep moving along with the next devotional whenever I can fit it in. These are great to help the kids to think about situations that they don’t find themselves in now, but could in the future.

Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I started this read-aloud with a bit of trepidation because I always saw the Little House series as more of a “girly” series and because I have three boys, I wasn’t sure if there would be any interest in the story. Well, I was kind of right! There isn’t much interest in the story itself but my youngest boy is actually the most interested in it! He loves it so much, I found myself researching the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home & Museum in Missouri and writing it down in my notes for future travel plans!
